Sourcegraph

Sourcegraph

Sourcegraph is an enterprise code intelligence platform that provides deep search, code navigation, and AI-powered assistance to help developers understand and manage complex codebases. Its core capabilities include precise code search across all repositories and branches, an AI agent (Deep Search) that reasons over indexed code graphs to answer complex questions, and tools like Batch Changes for safe, large-scale code modifications. The platform is designed for engineering teams working on large or multi-repository codebases, providing features like code insights for tracking patterns over time, code monitoring for alerts, and an MCP server to give AI coding agents full codebase context. It integrates with major code hosts and development workflows, offering both cloud and self-hosted deployment options with enterprise-grade security.

Incident triage: the fix grep didn't find
Try it on your own code: https://sourcegraph.com/deep-search?utm_source=youtube-incident-response&utm_medium=social A cart page returns 500. One line in the frontend log: "could not retrieve cart." Nothing about why. So you grep the error string and get two hits, Redis and Spanner. It looks like the whole answer. It isn't. A third backend throws the same failure in different words, and grep has no way to know it exists. Ship the two-file fix and the alert comes back. This is 85 seconds of triage on an open-source codebase: the page, the log line, the grep that half works, the question asked in plain English, and the same alert closing green nine minutes later. Why it matters depends on your seat. If you run engineering, the cost was never the nine minutes. It's the repeat incident, and the fact that one senior engineer was the only person who knew the third backend was there. If you own platform or developer experience, this is the gap your search tooling leaves open. Grep finds the string you typed, not the code that says it differently, and that gap widens with every service, every repo, every acquisition. If you own risk, swap "incident" for "CVE" and it's the question you ask after every advisory: did we find every place this pattern exists, or only the places that phrase it the way we guessed? Chapters: 0:00 The page 0:15 What the log actually says 0:26 The grep that finds 2 of 3 0:37 Asking instead of guessing 0:49 All three, with citations 1:08 Same page, different ending Production notes: The codebase is real and unmodified: GoogleCloudPlatform/microservices-demo (Apache-2.0) at commit b9a978d. Those three files genuinely throw the same error three different ways, and a literal grep genuinely misses one. The Slack alert is a re-creation.

Introducing Agentic Batch Changes: the frontier agent for code change at scale
https://sourcegraph.com/agentic-batch-changes?&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_campaign=ga-9-14 See how platform engineering teams and security buyers can remediate vulnerabilities at scale without manual tracking. This workflow finds security issues across Python, TypeScript, Go, and Java repositories, writes the code changes, adds regression tests, and submits pull requests for team review. Maintain full control with existing CI checks while eliminating hours of cross-repo coordination.

Who uses it

Real use cases, no hype
Enterprise Codebase Onboarding
New engineers get up to speed on complex, legacy, or multi-repo codebases by asking natural language questions answered with full context.
Large-Scale Migration & Modernization
Execute and track code changes (e.g., framework upgrades, security patches) across hundreds of repositories with full control.
Security Vulnerability Remediation
Identify all instances of a vulnerability (e.g., log4j) across the entire fleet of repositories and track remediation progress.
AI Agent Context Augmentation
Provide coding agents (Cursor, Claude, etc.) with complete, accurate code graph context via MCP to improve generation quality.
Incident & Audit Tracing
Quickly trace a change through history, find who did it, and see the exact commits and diffs to resolve issues or pass audits.
Codebase Health & Compliance Monitoring
Track migrations, dependency usage, code ownership, and style guide adherence over time with visual insights and alerts.
What's great
  • Deep Search provides cited, natural-language answers across all repositories.
  • Enterprise-grade security (SOC2, ISO27001) with zero data retention for LLM inference.
  • Handles the world's largest monorepos and multi-repo architectures.
  • Agentic Batch Changes automates large-scale code migrations and remediations.
Technical strengths
  • Unified codebase context for AI agents, eliminating fragmented, error-prone interactions.
  • MCP Server delivers SCIP-powered code graph to any compatible AI agent (Claude, Codex, etc.).
  • Deep Search Evaluator runs code in a sandbox for complex, computed answers beyond simple retrieval.
Where it falls short
  • High cost barrier with a $16K minimum annual contract for enterprise features.
  • Credit-based pricing for AI features adds complexity and potential for overage costs.
  • Core value is for large/enterprise codebases; may be overkill for small projects.
  • Some advanced features (like premium support) are optional paid add-ons.
Technical limitations
  • Requires indexing your entire codebase, which is a significant setup and resource commitment.
  • Deep Search is non-deterministic; answers can vary between runs despite citing sources.
