AI content can rank in Google and get cited in AI search — but pure AI output usually isn’t enough. After 16 months of testing, we found a clear difference between AI slop and AI-assisted content that actually performs. We tested pure AI content on new domains, then compared it with AI-drafted articles edited by humans on the SE Ranking blog. The result: 71% of pure AI pages were indexed and often got an early ranking window, but many dropped after roughly three months. Meanwhile, six AI-assisted articles on our blog generated 500,000+ impressions, 2,000+ clicks, three top-10 rankings, and four AI Overview citations.
